Gwrych Castle – An Offical Guide

By Mark Baker

In the late 18th century a young man had a dream of building a monument in memory of his mother’s ancestors: 200 years later another young man dreamt of saving this monument from dereliction and neglect.

Read the history of Gwrych Castle and the Family who built it in Mark Baker’s latest book.

The book details the history of the family from the Lloyds of Gwrych through to Winifred, Countess of Dundonald.

Read about the architectural importance of the Castle and how the location influenced the design of the buildings.

Learn about the decline of the building since the 1980s and details of the work done by the Trust to restore the Formal Gardens and the Trust’s plans for the restoration of the Conservatory and Melon House.

All Proceeds from the book will go to support the work of the Trust.

Margaret Sandbach – A Tragedy in Marble and Ink

The book tells the story of the relationships between Margaret, her husband and the famous sculptor John Gibson in their own words, using letters, diaries and poetry. Fragments of Margaret Sandbach’s life of achievement and tragedy survive, scattered across the country. The book takes the form of a meandering pilgrimage to Hafodunos, Margaret’s beautiful, but derelict North Wales home. The sculpture gallery she inspired there is under restoration, following the recent fire that threatened to obliterate her greatest legacy.

Suggested donation for the book £15.00 plus £4.95 p+p.
