Our project has been shortlisted for a public vote in Tesco’s #BagsofHelp initiative! Vote for us to win the top prize in store! Between 31st October and 13th November 2016 you will be able to cast your vote for the restoration of Gwrych Castle Gardens at Tesco Stores in Abergele, Prestatyn and Llandudno Junction. When you shop you will be given a token and with that you will have the opportunity to vote for the Gwrych Castle Garden Restoration! This grant will enable Gwrych Castle Preservation Trust to restore the historic formal gardens back to its former glory. The aim of the Trust is to ensure that the public has access to this great heritage asset. The re-creation of this designed landscape as a community garden provides a new chapter in the castle’s history.
Tesco has teamed up with Groundwork on its Bags of Help initiative in hundreds of regions across England and Wales. The scheme will see three community groups and projects in each of these regions awarded grants of £12,000, £10,000 and £8,000 – all raised from the 5p bag charge.
Bags of Help offers community groups and projects in each of Tesco’s 416 regions across the UK a share of revenue generated from the 5p charge levied on single-use carrier bags. The public will now vote in store from 31st October to 13th November on who should receive the £12,000, £10,000 and £8,000 awards. In total, there is over £12.5 million up for grabs.
Please support this project by voting for Gwrych!

An afternoon of art themed events in the gardens and restored tower at Gwrych. Thanks to a grant from Voluntary Arts Week we are inviting the public to come and use the castle as a muse for inspiring their creativity. The castle will be the backdrop against which our imagination will run wild. Artists featured include Nadine Carter-Smith, Liz Bolloten, Ceri Leeder, Yasmine Boudiaf and Liz Hodgkinson. Each artist will be working on a communal piece that features the castle or elements from its history. Come and have a go. If you are a photographer or a writer, bring your tools of work and be inspired. For those who want something different, we have a ‘selfie challenge and treasure hunt’. Refreshments will be available on site and we are asking for people to park in Abergele rather than on site. All funds raised will go towards to continuing conservation and restoration of Gwrych Castle.
Come and see the restored Gardener’s Tower and take in the beauty of the castle and gardens!
